Why not take advantage of the Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme

In regional parts of Australia, expecting to receive cell phone reception is not feasible. The country is simply too large to be completely covered by cell tower signals. Fortunately, the Department of Communications of the Australian Government is well aware of this problem. As a result, the department has enacted the Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme to address this concern.

This has been in force since 2002 and is set to end on June 30 2014. It’s a wonderful gesture by the government to assist citizen’s  with the purchase of a phone that works even in places where there is no cell phone signal. As we all know, a satellite phone gps combo comes with a hefty price tag with it. However, no one can live in today’s world without a communication device, particularly at work.

Hence, the Australian Government is willing to defray a part of the total price of a satellite phone in order to assist a citizen to purchase one. Depending on which part of Australia you live in, you may be eligible to receive 50%-85% subsidy on a phone’s retail price. There is a catch though, the subsidy doesn’t work as a reimbursement. Therefore, you have to be approved of the subsidy before you buy the phone.

Any person who can prove that he isn’t within the confines of an acceptable sat phone plans mobile coverage could submit an application. Small businesses, educational institutions and a variety of organizations could also take advantage of this scheme before it expires.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the service provider or dealer where you plan to purchase the satellite phone should be registered for the scheme. Once you’ve confirmed this the next step is merely to download the application form in the Department of Communication’s website and fill it in.
